When choosing a SAP Sharepoint integration methodology the following needs to be considered.
| |
Business Data Catalogue
The Business Data Catalogue is part of the SharePoint Services SDK, and it facilitates access to SAP systems by SharePoint.
The Business Data Catalogue uses a metadata model (XML), and it provides schema definition files (XSD) for the XML. Business Data Web
Parts and Business Data Columns are used to display data in the portal. |
 |
| |
SharePoint Server Web Parts
SharePoint Server Web Parts are Microsoft's equivalent of a portlet, although they do no require portals
to be delivered. Web parts allow a user to personalise their interface and come with embedded controls independent
of the UI. SharePoint Web Parts can be coded to connect to SAP data. Once in the SharePoint environment the data
can be further manipulated as required. |
 |
| |
SAP .NET Connector
Part of Visual Studio. Allows SAP and .NET Framework to communicate. Supports Remote Function Calls (RFC). |
 |
| |
iView Web Parts
SAP iViews are embedded web components that are delivered from SAP Enterprise Portal. |
 |
| |
Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) Web Parts
WSRP are web components that are built around the WSRP standards. This standardising allows the
use of web services without the need to modify the web service code. This is useful if a web part
is being utilised from outside the company. It also simplifies the web part integration with SharePoint. |
